Post-Doctoral Fellows

Sebastian Dys, Ph.D.

Sebastian is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Psychology at Simon Fraser University working with Prof. Marlene Moretti. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of Toronto and completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Waterloo.

Sebastian's research examines children's and adolescents' social, emotional, and behavioural development. His work concentrates on how caregivers' disciplinary practices, adolescents' dispositional characteristics, and parent-adolescent relationships affect adolescents' social behaviour.

To investigate these topics, his research has employed a broad range of statistical techniques (e.g., structural equation modeling, dyadic data analyses, meta-analyses) and methodologies (e.g., observational tasks, eye tracking, interviews).

Hanna Usatenko, Ph.D.

Hanna is a Postdoctoral Fellow, Research Associate at the Department of Psychology at Simon Fraser University, working with Prof. Marlene Moretti. She earned her Ph.D. at the Institute of Social and Political Psychology in Ukraine, where she studied attachment in families raising children with disabilities.

Hanna's research explores assistive technologies and alternative and augmentative communication for children and adolescents in relation to parent-child attachment, family well-being, and child social integration. Her work concentrates on the impact of assistive technologies on caregiver-child relationships and meaningful inclusion of children with disabilities into social life.

Hanna is also a National Contact Person on Ukraine in the Association of the Advancement of Assistive Technologies in Europe and a family therapist. She employs a broad range of statistical techniques in her studies, including structural equation modeling, regression, and qualitative and quantitative analyses.

Natalie Goulter, Ph.D. (Alumni)

Natalie Goulter, Ph.D., is a University Research Associate and Adjunct Professor within the Department of Psychology at Simon Fraser University, Canada. She received her M.Sc. in Psychology at the University of Otago, New Zealand, under the supervision of Professor Michael Colombo, and her Ph.D. in Psychology at the University of New South Wales, Australia, under the supervision of Professor Eva Kimonis. After her Ph.D., she completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship collaborating with Professor Robert McMahon (Director: Institute for the Reduction of Youth Violence) and Professor Marlene Moretti (Director: Adolescent Health Lab) at Simon Fraser University.

Dr. Goulter’s program of research focuses on the development of externalizing psychopathology and callous-unemotional traits (i.e., deficient affect, callous lack of empathy, reduced affiliative capacity) during childhood and adolescence from a biopsychosocial perspective. Specifically, she is interested in: a) environmental risk and protective factors; b) biological mechanisms with a focus on endocrine and physiological indices; c) emotion processing and social cognition factors; and d) prevention interventions.
